While this film was a cultural phenomenan, even Prince's unofficial soundtrack scored a #1 hit, and it was the best Batman film at the time, Nicholson as the Joker is it's heart and soul. In this Bat-verse he creates Batman and delivers the most quotable line of the Batman film franchises. The Gotham backdrop is also a welcomed dark, Burton-esque nightmare fairytale. The good guys however, particularly Vivky Vale and her tag along news buddy, as well as Keaton, are more stale and uninteresting. Thus, their defeat of the heart and soul of the film leaves much to be desired.
