Action: 2/3 + Comedy: 0.5/2 + Good vs Evil: 1/1 + Love/Sex: 1/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 + Plot: 1/1 + Music: 1/1 = 7/10 or 70%.
[REC] basks in the simplicity of how horrible reality can become. It exploits the old "what if?" proposal by applying it to a news crew's worst nightmares: no freedom of press, government suppression, and a story without explanation. So what would one do if the dead just decided to stand up while being filmed on camera? Overall, [REC] is an enjoyable variant of every ___ of the Dead film with a twist of 28 Days Later (on a far less grandiose, yet satisfying, scale).
