Kevin Bacon was due for another good movie

This one one of the biggest surprises of the year for me. I am not going to say that the plot was original but there were several times where it genuinely surprised me and for this it is a good thriller.
Keven Bacon was convincing enough and there was a couple tear-jerking scenes that made it hard not to care about the characters. The other acting was also good, I really enjoyed watching John Goodman play a scumbag hard-ass.
The movie showed both sides: Gang life and upper-class life. It showed the differences but most of all it showed in the end how similar we all are in the end. We look our for our family and will do whatever we have to in order to protect them.
Another thing I was surprised with was the quality of directing. Ian Jeffers took what could have been more of a mindless action movie and filmed it artistically. I may be being a kind giving this 3.5 stars, but in the end there was so many things I thoroughly enjoyed about this movie.
