Not So Merry

This movie was not as great as I thought it would be. It had all of the right ingredients--talented actors, relatable subject matter, holiday humor--but it just fell short. It was like waiting for your mom to finish cooking your favorite dish, but her best friend from college called and she forgot to check on it so it came out burnt. While there were moments that were very funny, for the most part there was just too much farce and no chemistry between the actors.
The "conflict" between Vaugh and Witherspoon seemed force. It was like the writers said, "OMG, we need to have something wrong with them! We'll just say they don't know each other well even though they've been together for 3 years and do everything together that's what we'll say!" It just made no sense. Also, in one day Witherspoon goes from being perfectly content with her life to literally all of a sudden wanting family and gets mad at Vaughn for having the same views on family as he did when he woke up that same morning.
I really think they could have done a lot more with this film. It could have been really great if they did more with the families and not the silly relationship stuff.
