Pure Terror

What do you get when you mix highly acclaimed actors, a terrible plot, and stupid costumes? Well, you get what I would call a "horror" movie. It's very confusing when good actors do bad movies. To be honest, I'm ashamed that I am even able to write a review on this film. I was dragged to the theatre to go see this, and I was hoping that I would be pleasantly surprised. Nope. The movie is just as terrible as I thought it would be. I actually fell asleep watching this film. Now, you may be thinking, "That doesn't mean anything. People fall asleep in the theatre all the time--even when it's a good movie." Correct you are. However, how many people do you know who actually TRIED falling asleep. I couldn't wait for it to be over.
The movie starts out with some man running through the woods and getting attacked by "the wolfman." No one cared. You find out the man that was attacked and killed was the brother of Del Toro who and the fiance of Blunt. No one cared. Then Hopkins reunites with his son after this tragic event--he didn't care. This movie was devoid of any emotional attachment or interest in the characters. There was absolutely no development whatsoever, so even when the "big twist" came, it didn't matter. And was this supposed to be scary? I don't even know. It's definitely dark--literally and figuratively. So I guess it was supposed to be somewhat scary...I think. The bottom line is, do not waste your money on this. When it comes out on DVD, still don't waste your money or time on it. When it comes out on HBO, you should cancel your subscription so that you will never have the misfortune of accidentally passing over this movie while flipping through channels.
The only reason this movie get a full star out of me is because Hopkins and Del Toro don't suck.
