It is a fabulously made film. But the messaging feels so ham-fistedly preachy. This is not the Spike Lee I remembered back in 1989. This is biased Lee. He may be angry, but anger is no excuse this time. It could've been a great commentary on topics such as gun violence, but it turns out that Lee, like most black filmmakers, wants to be douchey with it. Wants to be an agenda nerd with it. It's shit like this that shows how much Spike Lee has declined. Oh lords, he's declined hard.
