Claire Denis' films can oftentimes be very hard to grasp. However, in this film the characters and actors are strong: Mati Diop (as Josephine), Alex Descas (as her father) and the people that surround them in their lives. Oftentimes, Denis' films do not pay off, but this one does. Her films are slow, and this one is no exception. However, simultaneously there is enough going on to distract the viewer.
