Barbe Bleue is One of Breillat's Best

A solid effort by female revisionist Catherine Breillat. The story is retold by two young sisters who rediscover the story of Barbe Bleue aka Bluebeard. The younger sister who is about 6 or 7 is confused and said that Bluebeard and his last wife were homosexuals. In the meantime, the main story is about two teenage sisters who are poverty stricken. One has the desire to become wealthy and has no qualms about meeting the infamous Bluebeard. The story is an absolute delight and it only gets better as it goes on. The chilling ending is both sad and a relief as the two "sister" stories take completely different turns.
