Sidney Lumet's breakthrough film

The movie starts out innocent enough, but Lee J. Cobb gives the performance of a life-time. I don't want to give any spoilers, but let's just say I was bawling by the end of the movie. Henry Fonda is pretty good in this, but I felt that it was a tad too liberal, that they were saying "Let's not convict this guy in case he's not guilty" which was pretty far-fetched.
Overall, it gets you thinking. However, most jurors aren't going to care that much about saving someone's life, especially if they are probably a criminal. I haven't seen the remake. I am interested in it, but it is probably not as good.
