Step Brothers: The Movie!!

Overall, the movie was non-stop funny with great performances and lines. The Visitor's Richard Jenkins shows us he can be in indie films and blockbusters alike. He really is a good actor. The last time I remember seeing Mary Steenbergen in a film was when I saw Back to the Future III in the third grade. Needless to say, it's been awhile. Still, she managed to be attractive, funny, and oozing with charm.
My main problem with the movie and the only reason I didn't give it a higher rating, was because of the bad language and some crass humor. That wasn't necessary. Also, I felt that the characters were a little too mainstream, hanging up posters of rock bands that would be expected for the average 40 year old man. I didn't feel that these characters were anything more than status quo and that the movie was trying to appeal to America's masses, without having anything to set it apart. Until the song at the end of course. It was different, unique, and one of my personal favorites that I've seen in an American movie that wasn't directed by David Lynch.
The character of Derrick makes everyone's skin crawl. Everyone has a Derrick in their lives and you wonder, why can't everyone else see through him? There was a lot going on in the movie, and all the subplots were balanced nicely. The great thing about the movie was that it delivered and you didn't feel ripped off. There was too much hype surrounding the Batman movie, so I saw Step Bros. opening weekend, so I could just be entertained instead of wondering how the film compared to other Batman movies.
