Hypocrisy reaches a new glamorous status in Mankiewicz's marvelous prime opera about ambition, manipulation and psychological catastrophe. The true highlight of this legendary masterpiece of razor-sharp dialogues, unparalleled performances and a top-notch direction is the way our preconceptions and definitions of "climax", "plot development" and "antagonistic character" are completely shattered. Yes, the Academy overreacted (my soul still prefers the cataclysmic meta-film brilliance of Sunset Blvd. [1950]), but the current's film status has lived up to the hype of the present generations. Oh, the beauty of betrayal and Hollywood capitalism!
