"Minari" is first and foremost about the American Dream, a visually gorgeous and emotionally affecting experience seen through the eyes of immigrants. What makes it so radically different from movies like it is the way it defines its characters with more than their nationalities. It's also a universally relatable family drama about sacrifices that avoids manipulative pitfalls and dulling itself down to schmaltz.
