I watched this movie years ago and was as stunned by its impact then as I was now when watching it again. After watching this movie (an intense drama about a very damaged prostitute) the first time , I wanted to know more about this tortured, pitiful soul. I watched a documentary about her life and read what I could find to learn more about her life. Watching the movie, it was hard to believe this was a true story. Aileen was America's first documented serial killer, but, in spite of that, she's a very sympathetic character. The trauma in her childhood and early life and the brutal rape and torture by a client of hers, I believe, brought her to this point of no return. The trauma of the rape/ torture seemed to bring her (understandably) to a psychotic state of mind. As the story progresses, her attacks become more ruthless. An excellent movie with outstanding acting.
