A Movie I Respect
Terry - wrote on 11/09/23
I movie for people that can accept certain change, such a new continuity, lead actor, and director. This is a movie that will and have pleased Hellboy fans, and people that have been paying attention understand that the majority of detractors of this movie are Guillermo del Toro fans and Ron Perlman fans, and they review-bombed the movie and engaged in spreading libel online to get people to not watch it. I am here to clear things up. Do you like or love Hellboy? Why not give this a try? It's a movie that has an excellent performance from David Harbour, gorgeous visuals, and fun characters. From now spoilers will be scattered about this review. Daniel Dae Kim is also in this movie, and he's not just "Dr. Han" like some people think. He's an actor with a large range of acting that can play many characters, and here he's a suspicious agent that hates demonic creatures but eventually comes to respect Hellboy and chooses to be his partner. I found this movie to be less goofy and irritating that the Del Toro movies, but there are still odd choices such as the surprising moments when Hellboy seems to talk but we're actually hearing his thoughts, or maybe he's narrating, I don't know. Anyway, although there are moments I wouldn't have put into the movie, I don't fault the movie and I can see what Neil Marshall and Andrew Cosby were trying to convey. There was studio interference as well, so the movie could have been better, but I still really like it. I can certainly see why actually mature people can dislike this, but I personally just can't not really like it. On IMDb the negative reviews are full of rude manchildren that can't accept that Ron Perlman isn't Hellboy for once. At least on this site people understand how to criticize. I also really liked the music in this one. Overall I loved the acting here, and the CGI looked so beautiful for it's time. Now technology has changed within the last four years, but it was still awesome in 2019 and overall the movie has stunning visuals, and although I like some CGI better in other movies, like Bloodshot, and Revenge of the Sith, I still really like it here, even though it doesn't to the impressive heights of DC and Marvel, I feel like this was severely slept on, in not just the CGI, but the whole movie itself. I mean, Ian McShane was in this movie and people barely talked about him. I will be revisiting this movie again for the second time this year, it will be my seventh viewing of the film, because I just really like it. I will also be rewatching other movies, such as Toy Story 3. Overall, I have never hated this movie, and I am astonished at the major outcry surrounding the movie. I recommend it, and I hope you like it as well.
