Pumping, hyper, over-the-top; Ishii borrows liberally from neo-noir and French new wave, but injects it with the kind of manic energy, eccentric fashionability and sleazy-good fun you'd only find in a live-action manga. Amidst the unabashed mugging and coked-up Dick Tracy-esque villains, Tatsuya Gashuin stands out the most as a disturbed, impish hitman who provides several of the funniest scenes in the movie.
