A modern fairy tale, Slumdog Millionaire is an unexpected surprise that keeps you engaged all the way to the end, even though the opening shot reveals the ending. The film centers around Jamal Malik, who appears on India's version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and finds that all the answers to the questions he's given are based on events in his life. The title slumdog refers to his orphan status, as Jamal was orphaned at a young age and led a rough life. At the heart of this film, however, is Jamal's love for Latika, a fellow orphan who moves in and out of Jamal's life.
Definitely one of the best of the year. If you have the chance to see it, take it. It is a GREAT film.
