Given that I'm not a Tarantino fan, I probably shouldn't have seen this movie, but I thought maybe this movie would change my opinion. I was wrong. This is really a movie that only a fan could love.
For starters, the movie is much too long, with scenes that drag on forever with endless dialogue. What makes this more frustrating is that it's obvious how the scene is going to end, but it takes FOREVER to get there. Brad Pitt's scenery chewing gets tiresome after awhile as well. We're introduced to the Basterds who apparently strike fear in all the Nazi's because of how effective they are. Mind you, we never see this, we only see the aftermath of one of their ambushes, the other 2 times we see them in action they screw up royally.
Even Tarantino tires of the Basterds, as after about 45 minutes we get introduced into a separate story involving an undercover Jew forced to host a Nazi movie premiere in her theatre. I'll admit this was an interesting story, it sadly also suffers from overextended dialogue and obvious story-telling.
Soon Tarantino decides to shoehorn the Basterds into the more interesting story, and it's sloppy, lazy, and terrible. Any other director would be eviscerated for this, but it's Tarantino, so critics turn a blind eye. The last 30 minutes are pretty entertaining, unfortunately it takes TWO HOURS to get to that point and by then, you're checking your watch wondering when this movie is finally going to end.
See it if you must, but there's really nothing here of great interest or storytelling. Wait for DVD instead so you can FF through the LOOOOONG conversations that add nearly nothing.

Sorry. In my head I typed Quentin Tarantino and not "good dialogue." Yes, there are differences in good dialogue. A lot of people don't like QT and I am cool with that. I was not trying to sound like I was disagreeing with you. He does get pretty cocky with the dialogue. I am glad they cut it because before it was 3 hours. Also, Death Trap sucked.

Yep. You are not a fan of good dialogue and long scenes. I think it will be even better the second time for me.
