Crazy Heart is this year's best tale of redemption. It's a story you've seen before - former success hits rock bottom and struggles to right themselves, but rarely has it been executed as well as this film. This is mainly due to Jeff Bridges, who gives a career best performance as Bad Blake, an aging alcoholic has-been struggling to survive. There's a good cast here, and it's pretty sweet seeing Robert Duvall as well, given his similar role in Tender Mercies so long ago.
I also have to say what helps this film is its music. As I said redemption stories are nothing new, but country music is the one genre of entertainment that seems to grasp this concept so well. Not only does the music help tell the story, but Bridges' performances make everything more realistic. It would be awesome if this is finally the movie that gets Jeff Bridges his long overdue Oscar.
