Daniel Day Lewis stars in this epic movie about early oil tycoons at the turn of the century. Lewis is the star here, as he appears in nearly every scene and gives a mesmerizing performance. Unfortunately, that's about all I appreciated here, other than the great landscapes. The first half really works as Lewis builds his empire in a small town sitting on an ocean of oil. Throughout the second half, he descends into a ruthless personality that doesn't make for pleasant viewing. Of course, that's probably the point, but it didn't make it a movie I could really enjoy.
