A historical drama about the Cuban Missile Crisis may not seem like very entertaining material, but it is a very interesting film. In history class you learn how the Russians turned their boats around and the crisis was over, but what you didn't know is that the world was still very close to nuclear war in the days that followed. Bruce Greenwood is pretty good as JFK, there was Oscar nomination talk at the time and a nom would have been deserved.
Kevin Costner plays a "special assistant" to the President, who's role may not have been as influential as the movie portrays, but this is harmless enough. When I first watched this movie a few years ago, I thought he sounded like Elmer Fudd with his New England accent. Now that I live in Boston, I realize he sounds pretty much like everyone out here.
