OK..OK... i hear ya. You stageplay brainiacs. It's not the same as the original. They never are. And I've never seen the stage rendition myself. But you also need to consider how many different times the novel and film had undergone revisions and adaptations. The French author GASTON LEROUX when he wrote the novel " Le Fantôme de l'Opéra " didn't have a clue how it would evolve into the longest running Broadway musical ever.
But if you were to set it apart from the stage act, and consider it as a plain movie production, you'd see the beauty of it! EMMY ROSSUM (CHRISTINE) was just radiating a sweet aura, innocent and beautiful. The Scottish actor GERARD BUTLER (THE PHANTOM) has undeniably took over the sketchy character of Christine's ghostly mentor without a dent. Just fantabulous!
