One of the most spectacular films of all time, Taxi Driver is Robert DeNiro's acting masterpiece and one of Martin Scorsese's finest directing achievements. DeNiro plays Travis Bickle, a mentally unstable Vietnam War veteran who drives a NYC taxi at night while continuing to let the city-filled sleeze that accompany him in his cab get the better of him. Bickle becomes obsessed with politics, wanting to rid the city of all the filth and crime and lastly a woman (Cybill Shepherd) and it all starts to boil over. Now completely filled with anger and coupled with his love interests' rejection, Bickle lashes out violently while attempting to save an underage prostitute (Jodie Foster) in the process. Scorsese's direction is magnificent again giving scene after scene of near perfect precision. Peter Boyle, Albert Brooks and Harvey Keitel each give great support and both Shepherd and Foster do more than admirable jobs but DeNiro's work is nothing short of breathtaking-rivaling perhaps only Al Pacino's Tony Montana (1983 Scarface) as the most remarkably acted characters in motion picture history. And yes, I am talking to you...Bobby....
