Sin City

A great film noir!!

Having never read Frank Miller's graphic novels, I was still excited to see this film. From the great music to the highly-stylized visuals, there's not a dull moment in Sin City. The acting is great. Clive Owen and Bruce Willis steal the show in their roles, and Mickey Rourke is very good as Marv (the first story we encounter). Jessica Alba can be pretty strong here and there, and Rosario Dawson is barbaric as a hooker, but in a good way. The special effects, when used, are stunning. Of course the star of the film is the visual-style in which this stories are told, and it is absolutely mind blowing. The use of colors, and film noir black & white provide for surreal images. The stories are clever, and well-crafted. I never would've thought of Elijah Wood as a cannibal, but it's so nicely done, it fits and doesn't lose the audience. Clive Owen's was the most entertaining, in my opinion, as it had all the elements of a good film, even if it was only 30-minutes. Bruce Willis' tale is very tragic, and is the second-best if I had to choose. Overall, Sin Cit is visually amazing, and excellent in stories. Beginning to end, nothing is misplaced; the sensuality is great (mainly because the women are great to look at), the violence is extreme (a wolf rips at the severed limbs of Wood's cannibalistic psychopath) and the language isn't too bad (lots of S-words, and I don't think I heard any F-bombs). I highly recommend this film to those who like artsy films with actual depth. With eye-candy and great stories to match, see Sin City. Here's hoping that there's a sequel...
