The Silence of the Lambs

Review - The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

When Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) took on the case to get help from psychotic cannibal Dr. Hannibal Lector (Anthony Hopkins) to take down an equally psychotic murderer known as Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine), she didn't realize just how much Hannibal could get into her head. As she tries to solve the mystery of Buffalo Bill, she is being solved herself by the made doctor in the Best Picture winning film, "The Silence of the Lambs."

I'm honestly not sure how to explain how I feel about this film. I believe it is a good movie, but I believe there were enough things in it to make it be considered a bad movie. I do not believe it should have won Best Picture, personally, and I have a strong feeling the only reason it won was because of Hopkins and Foster.

The acting in this film is great. Hannibal is thoroughly and honestly creepy, while Clarice is innocent and a very believable person. The chemistry between the two works wonders and really brings the movie together.

There isn't too much exciting as far as technical aspects. There are some unique viewpoints used, but I wasn't a particular fan of them until they paid off, which took some time. There's a very surreal feeling to the film, while still being very real and contained.

I had a hard time writing this review, but I figure I got my view across. I like the movie, but I'd never say I love it, and I do think it's a bit overrated. Nonetheless, I highly recommend it.

Acting: 9/10
Writing: 8/10
Video/Editing: 8/10
Audio/Music: 8/10
Entertainment: 9/10

Final Score: 8.4/10
