Review - The Godfather (1972)

The Corleone family was known to many as a respectable family you didn't want to mess with, but with Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) growing older, he decides to make his reluctant son Michael (Al Pacino) his heir in the Best Picture winning film, "The Godfather."
People hate me for how I feel about this movie. I’ve always thought that it’s a good movie, but I’ve never thought it was interesting enough to be considered great. However, I have now seen the movie three times, and every time it seems to grow on me a little more.
This leads me to a crossroads. It’s almost as if I don’t want to like the movie as much as I do. The acting is really good. The writing could use some work in places, but the story is great. The music is a little too repetitive, but it’s a classic tune that defines the movie. My real problem with it at first was that it’s a very slow paced, uneventful movie for the most part. You have to really concentrate to appreciate the film. I think this is where I was originally at fault.
After having seen “The Godfather” three times to date, I believe it’s a very good, but a slightly overrated film. It certainly deserved the award, but it’s just not my favorite.
