There's Something About Mary

Mary Jensen (Cameron Diaz) was an attractive, irresistible girl, and Ted Stroehmann (Ben Stiller) knew it first hand. Ted tries desperately to get the girl of his dreams in “There’s Something About Mary.”

I’ve been putting off seeing this movie for a long time because I knew I’d hate it, and sure enough, when I finally saw it, I did thoroughly despise it. Ben Stiller has never been my favorite actor, and I’ve never liked his movies. The only one I really enjoyed was “Mystery Men,” but I’m a superhero guy like that.

As for this movie, I didn’t realize before viewing how full the cast was with people I couldn’t stand. Sarah Silverman and Chris Elliot showed up and I knew the movie hit a new low for me. Luckily Sarah didn’t have too much screen time.

I will admit two things that I liked about the movie, however. The first would be the music, which almost makes me want to go out and buy the soundtrack. I’m not usually fond of movies that use popular songs as an excuse for a soundtrack, but it worked here.

The ending was also worth the whole awful two hours waiting for. The set-up throughout the movie was poor and the execution was horrible, but I didn’t see it coming and that was good enough for me.

I wish I could recommend “There’s Something About Mary” just for the ending, but you’d have to sit through the rest to get to it. I guess if you’re a Stiller fan, you won’t mind.

Acting: 4/10
