I want lens flare. In every scene, every shot.

Star Trek fans, and by that, I mean those truly invested in the series, you have no one to blame but yourselves. In short... trekkies, this is your fault.
Whether that's good or bad is up to debate, but it's still your fault. I happen to feel the series is all the better.
Okay, so what I am I talking about? I mean the absolute necessity for the "Star Trek" franchise to be liberated from underneath the weighty scripture you've spent a lifetime memorizing. You created a world where any film crafted to satiate your rabid need for Star Trek was doomed to failure as it's torn apart in message boards and conventions across the world because the nacelles were flickering at a frequency inconsistent with operating at warp speed. Or some other ridiculous nonsense, I don't know... I'm not the guy that complains about the accuracy of a Star Trek film in an online forum.
This movie is your fault. Star Trek HAD to be redone, and the plot (alternate timeline) was also your fault. Thanks! I think this movie was great, and this new universe holds a lot of potential to create a franchise that holds onto the soul of the series without the baggage. It had to be done so badly the film makers included a scene as their own personal "We don't care, don't write us hate mail because we got something wrong" letter to those that may feel inclined to do so.
I think the casting of the movie was excellent, and the cast did a good job remembering their source material while keeping it fresh. The visuals did a good job doing the same for the old, blocky designs from the original series... taking what we remember and giving it an update and making it look like something that isn't already outdated by my cell phone.
I've gotta say, though, in case you didn't see the review title... lens flare. Why on earth was there lens flare in like... every scene? The movie was already sparkly and shiny... did it need more blinking lights to keep my attention? It got a little distracting.
I think this was a good start. I'm not gonna give it 4 stars, I don't think they got it all right, but this is an easy movie to recommend, if for no other reason than it finally made Star Trek FUN again.
I'm excited to see how this new series pans out. And just think, a whole new generation of trekkies has been born this year. We'll see how long it takes this next generation to bog down the thing they love to the point that it becomes unusable.
