A secret service agent, Jennifer Marsh, gets caught in a very personal and deadly cat-and-mouse game with a serial killer who knows that people (being what they are - both curious and drawn to the dark side of things) will log onto an "untraceable" website where he conducts violent and painful murders LIVE on the net. The more people who log on and enter the website, the quicker and more violently the victim dies.
I must say right now that I really was not looking forward to seeing this movie at all. My neighbor happened to have it and I figured I should check it out while I had the chance. Now that I have seen the movie I must say that the film is not as bad as it is proposed to be, it just seems repetitive and dragged on in some moments. So basically, we have seen this plot before, or somehow like this. Feardotcom was certainly not a good film but it had the premise which could have made it a lot better. Untraceable seems to be Feardotcom and Saw mixed together in one movie. It does have a good message to it, it shows the point that in today's society that we are willing to take lives and kill for entertainment no matter how wrong or right it is. It also shows how sick these people can be when it comes to uploading viral videos onto the internet.
The one spot which the cast and crew did well on was creating some pretty suspense ful moments. Even though the film did drag on and everything, some parts really had me jittering in my seat because I was desperate to see these outcomes of the situations. The beginning is the best part because it creates this tension and really opens up with a great premise. By the end though, I kind of felt like the makers ran out of money and through a quick and sloppy ending down just to do someting.
There are a few major problems with the film. First off, the movie is very hard to follow because both the director and screenwriter add's way to many twists and turns and eventually it gets confusing. Also, the script is really bad so it kind of took away a lot of value that the movie could have had.
Untraceable started off like Se7en and ended like most horror films do. Rent it, maybe.
