I would say the story has supernatural elements, but horror might be pushing this. You should pair this with Nagisa Oshima's In the Realm of Senses to get the full impact of the story - which mixes sexual expression with a somewhat political message. This is more a traditional folklore tale, heavy on drama, light on horror.
