Drew Goddard takes a page from Quentin Tarantino in crafting a story of disparate strangers sharing one night at a hotel/motel that splits the California/Nevada line. Told through a series of vignettes, we learn each of their stories, all which come to an explosive head. The film really works because of the cast, with Chris Hemsworth a standout as a Manson-like cult leader. All in all, it's very dark but a good time.
