Lazy, lazy, lazy - La Llorona is by far the worst film (thus far) in the burgeoning Conjuring universe, which started off so strong but, as of late, has gone down the wrong path. The original films worked because of atmosphere and genuinely creepy scares - this film ditches that for the lowest common denominator of jump scares and a very tenuous connection to the previous Conjuring films. Remove that connection and you're left with a horror film that could have very easily gone straight to streaming.
