A biting satire that takes on comedy and tragedy with a surprising depth of emotion, Taika Waititi isn't afraid to take chances, which makes him the perfect fit. A lot of credit has to be given to the young leads Roman Griffin Davis and Thomasin McKenzie, whose back-and-forth confrontations make up the backbone of the film. But don't discount the adults with Scarlett Johansson and Sam Rockwell both turning in great performances and Waititi taking on the role of the imaginary Hilter. Charming, brutal, uplifting, maddening - the film manages to run a gamut of emotions and makes for one of 2019's best.
