Although I still think Disney takes the easy way out with their live-action remakes, I really enjoyed this one because Halle Bailey makes a pitch-perfect Ariel, Melissa McCarthy is surprisingly effective as Ursula and even the live-action animals weren't as distracting as I expected. The film is full of vibrant visuals - especially the musical numbers "Under the Sea" and "Kiss the Girl". Though I felt Jonah Hauer-King Prince Eric was a bit weak and Javier Bardem was under-utilized as King Triton, overall this is one remake worth watching.
