Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, a Mr. E Movie Review
(Run time: 120 min. - Directed by: Guillermo del Toro - Starring: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones)
He's Back! Tough as nails Ron Perlman reclaims his role as the super-demon Hellboy. Now, I don't know if I dare say it but, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army in my opinion is better than the original! Yep, I said it and I stand behind it. With awesome, action-filled visuals, and a clean storyline that I say comic fans everywhere will enjoy.
Ok, here's the rundown. A bedtime story that was told to a young Hellboy comes true years later after an ancient pact between humans and people of the mystical realm is broken by the son of the king that originally made the pact. The connecting of three parts of an ancient crown will not only unleash the ancient Golden Army but, give the wearer complete control of the army. Hellboy, his fire starting girlfriend Liz. played by Selma Blair, and Abe Sapien, played by Doug Jones, are joined by Agent Johann Krauss, voiced by Seth MacFarlane on their quest to stop Prince Nuada, played by Luke Gross. Now to complicate things Prince Nuada has a twin sister Nuala, played by Anna Walton, who not only catches the eye of Abe Sapien but also has a unique connection to her twin brother. Everything that happens to him, happens to her!
I think that the story was paced better than the first Hellboy and the visuals have gotten a ton better. I wasn't a reader of the comic books but still felt they did a good screen version of these characters that played out rather well.
I recommend anyone who would like to see comic book fantasy be played out in a cool way. I think guys of all ages will enjoy this movie. I mean it's action-packed, filled tough guy attitude, and tons of wise cracks. So go ahead and check it out on DVD the next time your out, you won't be disappointed with this one.
