When people say hollywood is out of ideas I can usually find a reasonable way to defend the direction that it took in releasing the movies that it put out. The problem is there are some movies (and no I won't call this a film because it never earned that title) that you can't defend no matter how hard you try. The only thing that I can think of that would have allowed this movie to be released is that the studio needed money. They obviously didn't put much money into this movie, and expected to let a big name like Cedric the Entertainer to give back more then they invest. The problems are too numerous to list in their entirety, so I will give just the primary reasons why this movie is a miserable failure.
To start with, the character's were undeveloped, unbelievable and dislikeable. In a road movie such as this one, where the only thing to carry the movie is the character's and their relationships, the audience needs to connect in some way with them to really be engaged with the story. The character's here are not engaging, they are mostly black stereotypes with no depth and do such unbelievable thing such as pee in plastic cup inside the car and throw each others CDs out of the car. The basic ideas for the family members were: separated parents, a wannabe rapper, a girl always on the phone and a sweet young girl. However, no one took these ideas and developed them into characters I could identify as real people.
If I haven't successfully turned you away from this movie yet, then please by all means watch the movie, waste your time, but don't tell me that you were not warned! The worst is that the studio is still in contemplations to make a sequel.... anyone that gives it a greenlight should be shot.
