Not as good as Shrek 1&2 from a story perspective

I chose not to watch this on in the theaters because I had a number of friends that had seen it there and they told me that it wasn't worth seeing on the big screen. Being that I have been a big fan of the Shrek series ever since it began I really was looking forward to seeing this one. Unfortunately it would seem that the execs a Dreamworks decided that they needed a hit to compete with Spiderman 3 and decided to push it out just for the sake of competition. While the previous Shrek movies took not only years to produce but they went through extensive research and market tests, this one was pushed out based upon the previous figures and the end results left some bitter tastes in the mouths of those that saw it. I believe the biggest problems began with the script. Had the script writers witnessed the awfulness of the film "Happily Never After" they probably would have strayed from using the phrase "Happily Ever After" so many times in this film.
As always the animation was flawless, and the textures and environments were amazing. The film was really well done technically speaking but the script really lacked a lot of what made the first 2 movies so intriguing. Now with the rumors of Shrek 4 in the possiblities I can only hope that Dreamworks learns from its mistakes and decides to make some big changes before they drag the franchise through the mud again.
