The Invention of Lying

Fantastic

This is one of those rare cases where someone being original actually wasn't them doing anything odd and avant gard they could in order to come off simply as 'original' but was actually extraordinarily good. The concept, while it might seem odd and far fetched at first is excellent. This almost feels like a completely unexplored genre. I really had thought that I had seen enough movies by now that nothing much would really come along and be as completely refreshing as this was. The amount of detail in the story devoted to a 'world without lies' really shows us just how much we do lie everyday and don't even know it. Originality to me is now synonymous with crap as it is usually used to describe something done for the sole purpose of it's originality and as we all should know by now, original does not equal good. It's like telling an ugly chick she has a good personality. If the only thing good about something is that it hasn't been done before then maybe that's because it should have never been done in the first place. This movie however is a fantastic new concept that also happens to be original and revives some of my faith in the word itself.

The only faults I see in the film are in it's love story. While I do think Jennifer Garner played this role beautifully the love itself did feel a bit contrived. Personally I would have rathered more focus on the world itself in which they live it is understandable why they would show the story from that angle.
