Robert Altman's Best

Absolutely, Robert Altman's best film. The massive cast blends together and the plotlines messily overlap, per usual Altman style, but the small character moments revealed here are rich and reveal a lot of insight about human character. From purely a music industry standpoint, the backstage manipulations, heartbreaks, successes, and negotiation is also impressive and accurate to watch. The film succeeds on so many levels, not the least of which is the elegant soundtrack. It speaks mightily to a particular time period of music and politics and is entrancing to watch.
