A sometimes heartbreaking film that turns a real lens on the poverty and struggles of working class families in Italy. It's similar in tone to the Bicycle Thief - sometimes subtly funny and other times sorrowful. In fact, Bicycle Thief director Vittorio De Sica has a minor acting role in this film, as well.
