Quintessential Baseball Movie

A classic sports film that deservedly holds its place in any list of iconic sports movies. Robert Redford demonstrates his genial charm as a Ted Williams-like everyman. For sports junkies, the attention to baseball history detail is a plus. I will admit that a lot of the film is based on contrivance - including the coincidental all-too-perfect happy ending, but, like a similar underdog film, Hoosiers, it's difficult not to cheer along by the end of the movie.
