Similar to De Sica's Bicycle Thieves, this film manages to paint a real portrait of humanity in trying times, without accepting a cynical perspective. The film is told largely from a child's eyes and exists with a certain fantasy and optimism, but, at the same time, the harsh reality of a struggling poor family in Iran are not glossed over.
