Contemplation on a Fading Glory Age

This is a long (3+ hours) film that deals with fading nobility and, more personally, the journey of aging into mortality. It's more interesting, if viewed in context of Italian culture and history, but the last third of the film is a great contemplation on the fading away of a glory age. The film drags, as is expected with its long running time, but Lancaster anchors the film's strongest scenes and, if you stick with it, it finds a satisfying conclusion.
