This simple premise is executed elegantly and powerfully. Niven and Hunter are very believable protagonists, but the real scene-stealer is Roger Livesey's witty and intelligent doctor, who ends up defending Niven's character in the afterlife. The film wisely focuses on character and creates bold concepts with minimal special effects.
