One of Wayne's More Iconic Westerns

With some panoramic and epic cattle driving sequences and one of John Wayne's more scenery-chewing performances, Red River is responsible for pioneering a lot of now-classic staples of the Western genre. Occasionally, the film bites off more than it can chew (the love story subplot feels rushes and the passage of fifteen years occurs in a literal blink of an eye,) but the powerful struggle between Wayne and Clift's characters anchors the film.
