It was widely publicized as the "gay cowboy" movie, but Brokeback Mountain succeeds because it is, above all, a story of love and loss that would ring true, regardless of the sexual orientation of its characters. Ledger and Gylenhaal give brave performances and the film is populated with a host of strong supporting characters, as well.
