I personally like the Japanese perspective companion piece, but Flags of our Fathers is still a well-made and stirring war film. The battle sequences are kinetically photographed and the heroism of soldiers is on full display as director Clint Eastwood crafts memorable characters, then drops them into combat for us to root for.
