Beautifully Shot, but Somewhat Empty

If there's one thing that can be said for the Illusionist, it's that it's a very beautiful film, full of poetic moments and carefully composed shots. The script itself falls a little flat, as the characters fade into the background as more twists and turns are added into the plot. It bears comparison to the Prestige, but it's really a different type of film and, sadly, not nearly as impactful, either thematically or character-wise.
