Sometimes Slow and Inconsistent

In an interesting juxtaposition of documentary, Nostalgia for the Light explores two intersecting pursuits of the unknown - one celestial and the other historical. The historical recap of the tragedy of Chilean martyrdom is the most intriguing and heartwrenching story and the film loses a lot of steam when it meanders through the more scientific (and, thus, dry) portions that deal with astronomy. The result is a film that shoots for a high concept, but ends up being a little incongruent, though there are strong portions within.
