Slapsticky, But Still Witty

This is a lighter romp for Allen, which doesn't hold the deeper emotional impact of better Allen fare, such as Manhattan or Annie Hall. Still, it's a fun and slapsticky trip through the sci-fi genre, poking fun at other sci-fi creations, such as 1984 and Brave New World. Allen mostly plays the material as screwball, but the film does get in some wittier barbs at a futuristic society (such as the robot priest that is stationed in a McDonalds.)
