A Post Modern War Masterpiece

It's no surprise that a noted pacifist like Kubrick would make a film that, on its surface, seems to be an anti-war ode. Full Metal Jacket, though, is so much more - a multilayered coming of age story that touches on themes of courage, tragedy, and sacrifice, using war as a backdrop, and diving deeply and unflinchingly into its character's choices and actions. The film doesn't have many stars, but the acting is committed and true and the atrocity that Kubrick's camera captures will make you think long after the film is over.
